A graduate paramedic who joined United Voice in February quickly learned that it pays to be part of a union.
Soon after joining, this paramedic faced some issues while they were working as part of the huge emergency response effort at the Commonwealth Games.
The United Voice member arrived at the Games to find their accommodation didn’t meet basic workplace health and safety standards. They also had their overtime pay they were entitled to rejected.
With the support of their union, the member was moved immediately into alternative suitable accommodation and has now been back paid their overtime hours at double time rates.
This member found out quickly - the way to ensure yours is a job you can count on is to be part of your union.
