United Voice delegate Brian has helped win a pay rise for tavern workers that were short changed under an expired, non-union agreement with their Bundaberg employer.
Brian was concerned the conditions of his employer’s non-union agreement that expired in 2015 had fallen below the minimum entitlements in the Hospitality Award – and he was right.
This meant workers were missing out on minimum wages and penalty rates, leaving them short-changed by up to $435 a week compared to what they would earn under the Award.
United Voice supported Brian and other members at the tavern, like Dale, to terminate their expired agreement through the Fair Work Commission this month.
This is a great win for workers at the Bundaberg-based tavern, which shows it pays to know your rights. The best way to ensure you know your rights and get your entitlements is to join your union!
